
Carthage, from the Phoenician “Qart-ḥadašt”, meaning literally “New City” was founded about 3000 years ago on the Gulf of Tunis.
The legend says that Elissa (known also as Queen Dido) is the one who founded Carthage in 814 BC.
Homeland of the famous Hannibal, Carthage was considered the biggest threat to the Roman Civilization.
After the third Punic War, the city of Carthage was destroyed by the Romans in 146 BC, its culture and records were destroyed too.
